Advise Centre to engineer split in PDP | 'Black sheep' in PDP oppose Mehbooba as Chief Minister | | ET Report SRINAGAR, Mar 3: A few Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leaders are reportedly trying to sabotage the possibility of the party President Mehbooba Mufti becoming the first woman Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir. "A few PDP leaders have told the BJP top brass in New Delhi if party wants to re-stitch the alliance then it should not go with Mehbooba Mufti as the Chief Minister and it should ask the PDP to name someone else for the top post," sources told Early Times. They said, "These leaders have got it conveyed to the BJP leadership that Mehbooba is a very hard nut to crack and could be unpredictable at times." Sources revealed, "A few PDP leaders have told BJP leaders that if Mehbooba becomes the Chief Minister she would like to run the Government in her own way and Centre would find it difficult to control the JK affairs directly." A few PDP leaders, according to the sources, have suggested that Delhi should try to engineer a split in PDP to weaken the party and pave way for the pro-India voices to take the driver's seat. "BJP leaders have told a few black sheep among the PDP that they are well aware about the situation but at present they have no choice other than Mehbooba as the new Chief Minister of JK," sources added. They said a few BJP leaders in Delhi are firm on their stand that BJP should snap ties with the PDP as a damage control exercise. "A few BJP leaders are not averse to the idea of PDP splitting into two and Mehbooba being left alone but the million dollar question that's haunting them is would the Mehbooba's close lieutenant's say goodbye to her," the sources added. Insiders revealed that pressure is being exerted on the PDP president to fall in line and rumours are being spread that PDP-BJP alliance would be in place in Jammu and Kashmir within a few days. "Mehbooba Mufti proving to be a tough negotiator and not giving in is making the BJP leaders think twice as party doesn't want to burn its fingers in the other States," they added. A few PDP leaders who were camping in Delhi to strike a deal with BJP over Government formation in JK have already returned home as Mehbooba Mufti, according to the sources, is adamant on her demand that Centre needs to come forward and extend a helping hand to the State. The BJP top brass, which was likely to meet to finalize the modalities and give thought to the issues raised by. |
