JAMMU, Mar 3: Several Heads of Departments of the Government Medical College Hospital Jammu on Thursday shamefully washed dirty linen in front of the inspecting team of the Medical Council of India (MCI).
The Head of Departments apprised the visiting MCI team about the shortcomings of the GMC thus belying the claims of the former Health and Medical Education (M&HE) Minister about best facilities being provided to the patients in GMC and its associated hospitals.
Sources told Early Times that it was the second visit of MCI team, but unfortunately, the three members of team returned disappointed as some senior doctors of different departments of the College enacted a high voltage drama, at Principal's office, by putting a most horrible picture of the institute in-front of the MCI team.
Slamming the shameful display of internal politics, sources claimed that rather than highlighting genuine issues, such issues were raised which tarnished the image of the institution.
"However, the team informed the higher ups about the deficiencies in the GMC Jammu vis-a-vis shortage of faculty, creating separate blocks in hostels i.e. for boys and girls, and also creating boys and girls hostel in RS Pura. They also demanded separate quarters for senior residents, an examination hall for 250 to 300 students, creating additional space in the class rooms to accommodate more students and to upgrade library facilities and others.
The HODs, according to the sources, informed the team that no steps were taken by Secretary the top officials and the former Health Minister to address these very important issues.
A senior doctor wishing anonymity said , "This type of unwarranted behaviour by some senior doctors was uncalled for. They projected grim picture of their own institution, only to safe guard their personal interests."
"Former minister did nothing for the institute and only played politics by promoting his close aides on the higher positions, due to which the doctors and administration got polarized. It affected the functioning of the hospital and now these groups are creating nonsense in the institute, "he alleged.
"Fate of additional 50 MBBS seats to GMCH now hangs in balance as the team remained non committal for the same, "he stated.
