Infiltration bid foiled in Keran, one militant killed | | | S Tahir-ul Haq
Early Times Report KUPWARA, Mar 3: The army today foiled an infiltration bid made from across the Line of Control (LoC) in Keran sector of Kupwara district here in North Kashmir. One Pakistani militant has been killed so far, while as two soldiers were injured in the incident. Sources told Early Times that on Thursday afternoon, there was a moment of militants in the Keran sector, after which militants took position in the dense forests. "In snow-bound area the infiltration took place near Rawthanad Domari in Keran sector a group of 3-4 heavily armed militants were trying to sneak in the Indian side of the Line of Control (LoC), near Keran sector," sources said. A senior police official told Early Times that according to preliminary reports, 3-4 heavily armed militants were trying to sneak in from the Pakistani side of the Line of Control. "Army guarding the LoC noticed a group of militants who were asked to surrender, but they opened indiscriminate firing," said the police official adding that troops retaliated ensuing a fierce gun battle. He said in the initial gun battle, one militant was killed and two army soldiers sustained minor injuries. The injured soldiers were evacuated to the nearby army camp for treatment. The official said that due to darkness the body of a militant was not recovered yet but one weapon has been recovered from the site of operation. "The additional reinforcement was called in to neutralize the hiding militants. The intermittent firing is still going on in the dense forest," the official said. It is pertinent to mention here that this is the second infiltration bid in a month. On February 13 five militants of Jaish-e Mohammad were killed after they infiltrated to this side of Line of Control in Marsari village of Chowkibal area. |
