Illegal work on forest land, RO seizes JCB machine | | | Ajay Sharma
Early Times Report
Rajouri, Mar 3: Illegal work on forest land by some unscrupulous elements has come to fore at Panchayat Nallah Makol in this frontier district. Sources told Early Times during the intervening night of March 2 and 3, a contractor with some labourers had started earth work of a road with the help of a JCB machine on forest land at Nallah Makol Panchayat in Sunderbani tehsil. As the work on the road was going on someone called up Forest Range Officer Vinod Kumar Sharma and informed him about the incident, sources said, adding as soon the RO received the information, he reached the spot and seized the JCB machine which was used by the contractor in the illegal work that too during dead of the night. The contractor had no legal permission to carry out the work nor any survey was conducted by any government agency, the sources added. They said there was tremendous political pressure on senior Forest Officials to get the JCB machine released which was seized by the Range Officer Vinod Sharma. However, officials didn't succumb under pressure and registered a case under relevant forest sections against the contractor. People of the area have appealed the concerned authorities to take a stern action against the erring contractor whom they alleged is involved in many illegal works at tehsil office Sunderbani. While talking to Early Times Chief Forest Officer Roshan Jaggi said that nearly a ½ Kilometer forest land has been de-faced by the contractor and a case under relevant sections of Forest land Acts stands registered against him. |
