Weather pleasant in Kashmir, rain predicted till March 5 | | | Early Times Report srinagar, Mar 3: Weather remained pleasant with further improvement in the minimum temperature in the Kashmir valley, where Meteorological department has predicted isolated rain from today till March 5. A fresh Western Disturbance (WD) was active in the region which could result IN isolated rainS in the Valley and Jammu region while the weather will remain dry in Ladakh region during the next 48 hours, a Met department spokesman said here this afternoon. Though there was improvement in the minimum temperature at Leh and Kargil, but it remained below freezing point. Border town of Kargil, on Srinagar-Leh National Highway, closed since December last year, was coldest today in the region as the minimum temperature was minus 5.6 degree Celsius against yesterday's minus 6. However, Leh witnessed more than four degree improvement in the minimum temperature. Against yesterday's minus 7.6 degree, it was minus 3.9 degree at Leh where the sky would be generally cloudy and the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 9 degree and minus 8 degree respectively during the next 24 hours. The minimum temperature in the Valley witnessed further improvement though sun was playing hide and seek since this morning. The summer capital, Srinagar, recorded a major surge in the minimum temperature and settled at 5.1 degree, more than three notches above normal. However, the maximum temperature yesterday witnessed a drop though it was still six notches above normal. The met spokesman said there is possibility of light rain or thundershowers and the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 18 degree and 3 degree respectively in the city during the next 24 hours. World famous ski resort of Gulmarg and health resort of Pahalgam also recorded above normal minimum temperature. Against yesterday's minus 1.3 degree minimum temperature at Pahalgam, it was 0.9 degree, three notches above normal. At Gulmarg, the minimum temperature was 1.6 degree, about six notches above normal. However, Kokernag a tourist resort in south Kashmir recorded highest minimum temperature in the valley. Against yesterdays 4.3 degree, it was 6 degree, seven notches above normal. Qazigund recorded 3 degree minimum temperature while at Kupwara it was 4 degree, he said. |
