Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 8: Taking strong note of the alleged shortage of medicines including basic drugs in the state hospitals, Minister of State for Health Asiya Naqash during a high level meeting reprimanded Managing Director of Jammu Kashmir Medical Supplies Corporation for his reported hegemony in the Corporation and taking arbitrary decisions without consulting others. Reliable Sources at the department told Early Times that Minister for Health and Medical Education Department, Bali Bhagat and Minister of State for Health Asiya Naqash held a meeting with Principal of GMC&H and Medical Superintendents of associated hospitals to review working of the hospitals and take stock of availability of drugs and others in the hospitals. "The duo in their maiden meeting after government formation were informed by some participants of meeting that the essential medicines including basic drugs were not available in the majority of hospitals even at the premier health instruction Govt Medical College and Hospital Jammu, hampering the medicare to poor patients, sources said, further adding, "the situation has turned the healthcare scenario from bad to worse." Sources further added that after due appraisal about some vital issues and statistics with regard to healthcare in government hospitals, the MoS Health got annoyed over the functioning of JKMSC which is nodal authority to manage and procure medicines to government hospitals." Not satisfied with the replies from the MD-JKMSC Dr Yashpal Sharma, the Minister reprimanded him and said, "How can you alone take decision for whole of the State." "You are taking decision for whole of the State," she said when MD peevishly replied, he doesn't have enough space for storing drugs." Showing her dissatisfaction and displeasure, the MoS Health asked "if you do not have enough space then why the work of the Corporation has been started, should observe patience and wait for some time but what was the urgency to start on adhoc (temporary) basis". "First you should have acquired the requisite space for drug storage and then started the due functioning" she said ridiculing the operations of JKMSC. "Why to initiate a long journey when you can't walk a step", she said, directing the MD to leave the meeting immediately. |
