Separatists oppose hoisting of tricolour in Kashmir | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Apr 8: As the non-local NIT students are firm on their demand to get the tricolor back which was seized by Jammu and Kashmir Police during protests earlier this week, separatists have joined the bandwagon and are claiming that hoisting of tricolor is not acceptable in Kashmir. The so called Chairman of National Front and Hurriyat (G) leader Nayeem Ahmed Khan while addressing a news conference in Srinagar said: "The tri-colour has always been an issue here since 1947. No stone was left unturned by New Delhi to ensure tri-colour is waved in Kashmir, but we didn't allow it. We will never allow it in future also." An analyst while talking to Early Times said, "It's unfortunate that people like Khan, who are sponsored by Pakistan, are challenging the sovereignty of India and are openly challenging the national flag." He said, "The Government should act against the elements like Khan so that they don't dare to insult the tricolor, which is our pride and every Indian holds the national flag close to his heart." On the other hand Hurriyat Conference led by the hardliner Syed Ali Shah Geelani also issued a statement threatening that "it would not allow anyone to hoist tricolor in Kashmir." A Kashmir watcher said, "State and Central Governments are providing too much leverage to separatists and extremist elements. Had the authorities taken stern action against these people for hoisting Pakistan and ISI flags they would not have dared to object to hoisting of national flag in Kashmir." He said, "Poor NIT students who raised tricolor are being persecuted and are being threatened for raising pro-India slogans and hoisting a tricolor while no action is being taken against the people who are openly insulting the tricolor." "Separatists have been delivering big sermons on tolerance and greatness of Kashmiris. It seems someone needs to remind them that in early nineties extremists and terrorists joined hands and conspired against the minority Kashmiri Pandit community and ensured their forcible ouster from their motherland. Selective killings of Kashmiri Pandits and slogans against Kashmiri Pandit community terrified them and they were left with no other option other than to migrate from Kashmir," the Kashmir watcher said. He said, "Demand of the NIT students to handover the security of the NIT campus to Central forces and make them stay put there is genuine and justified. They (non-local) students are feeling insecure among the anti-national elements and they should be made to feel secure so that they are able to concentrate on their studies." A politician said, "It's high time for State and Central Governments to act against the separatists and the miscreants who raise pro-Pak slogans and hoist Pakistan and ISI flags in Kashmir. The non-local students in NIT Srinagar without fearing for their lives have challenged the separatists in their den and entire nation should support them." |
