High command takes BJP Minister to task for not visiting NIT
4/9/2016 12:26:33 AM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 8: What was the matter of speculation became a known fact when senior BJP Minister was taken to task by the party high command for his statement of `mild' lathicharge on the students of NIT Srinagar and was also asked to explain why he didn't visit the campus so far.
The party high command in New Delhi not only reprimanded the senior party minister but also directed him to rush back to the Srinagar and visit the campus besides meeting the agitating non-local students, who are on continuous protest dharna for the last four day.
The BJP minister had reached New Delhi last evening after a meeting the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, NIT Director and others at Srinagar yesterday. However, he did not visit the NIT campus where the agitating students were waiting for him throughout the day.
According to the highly placed sources in BJP circles, as soon as the Minister reached New Delhi, he was summoned by the high command and top R S functionaries, who took him to task for his failure to respond immediately over the issue of NIT Srinagar.
Even as the Minister sought to clarify that he was misguided by the Police officers, who told him that a mild lathicharge had taken place resulting into minor injuries to a few students, the high command asked why he didn't visit the campus very next day even after coming to know about gravity of the situation.
As the Minister had no clear answer to this except making lame excuses, the high command told him to rush back to Srinagar and personally meet the agitating students on the NIT campus.
Sources said the top RSS functionaries also issued similar directions to the senior Minister and asked him to concentrate more on big issue and remain in touch with the people.
Pertinent to mention that a day after brutal Police lathicharge on NIT students when the issue had become talk of the town with a serious of protests everywhere in Jammu as well as in other parts of the country against the Police lathicharge, the BJP Minister preferred to go to Hiranagar in Kathua for kick-off starting work on blacktopping of a road.
