Saahil Suhail Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Apr 8: Over two dozen miscreants allegedly attacked Kashmiri Pandit colony in Hall area of Pulwama district with stones; however, there were no reports of damage to life and property. Reports, pouring in from the area revealed that a group of youth, 20 to 25 in number this evening at around 6:40 pm hurled stones towards the colony. The incident has terrified the residents, kids in particular. "We were normally in the premises of our quarters along with our kids when we heard the slogans and witnessed heavy stone pelting," Amit, a resident informed ET over phone. They said that a group of youth, who had covered their faces with masks, hurled stones towards the colony, but luckily no one sustained injury. "They (Youth) also tried to attack our colony yesterday in broad day light, however left the area after raising slogans," residents alleged. Confirming the incident, Deputy Commissioner Pulwama, Neeraj Kumar said that additional forces have been rushed to the colony for safety of the residents. "Yes, in the evening some miscreants hurled stones towards the colony after which they (Kashmiri Pandits) felt terrified. I was just talking to SP, he informed me that SHO concerned along with additional troopers have been rushed to the spot," Kumar said. He, however said that intended target of the stone throwing youth was a nearby CRPF camp. "Target of the youth was a CRPF company there but few stones were hurled towards the colony as well," he added. SP Pulwama, Rayees Ahmad on being contacted too confirmed the incident, however said that youth were hurling stones on CRPF camp not on the Pandit colony. Pertinent to mention here, district witnessed intense clashes between youth and paramilitary forces on second consecutive day over the killing of militants and vandalizing graveyard in Karimabad area allegedly by the forces during intervening night. |
