Early Times Report JAMMU, Apr 8: A 'tainted' DIG, who is facing serious allegations of 'professional misconduct', has approached some Central Ministers for the early completion of an ongoing probe against him so that gets on time promotion as IGP. While the Government had given its nod for the promotion of other DIGs of his batch as IGPs, his name had not been cleared, police sources said. He faced the allegations of professional misconduct when, during his Central deputation, he was posted in his home State. He was then placed under suspension and a probe, that was initiated against him, was still underway, the sources added. He was now alleged to be lobbying with some Central Ministers for an early and a favourable inquiry report so that he too was promoted as IGP along with his batchmates, sources said. In State police circles, he is known as a politically well-connected officer. As SSP also, he held important postings across the State. Sources said during his posting as SP of different districts, he faced the allegations of taking money from Inspectors for their posting as SHOs. "So powerful he is that even after his suspension, he got himself transferred back to J&K from Central deputation and managed a posting for himself in Kashmir. He is now holding an important position in Jammu region," sources said. However, after it became to known to him that his name had not been cleared for promotion, he activated all his resources to get the inquiry against him either closed or concluded in his favour. His family members, who had connections at the Centre, were too helping him in his endeavour, the sources added. |
