Poonch, Apr 8: As the snow clearance operation on Mughal road, linking Poonch with Kashmir, was in full swing, it was likely to be thrown open to vehicular traffic by next week. The road, that connects Poonch with Kashmir via Shopian, was closed due to heavy snowfall on Pir Panjal ranges in Jammu. Men and machinery had been pressed into service to clear the road of snow, official sources said. April 7 was fixed the deadline to make the road through for vehicular Traffice earlier, but due to the recent snowfall and avalanche, the work got delayed. It was now believed that it would be made through for vehicular movement by next week, the sources added. The 42 km stretch via Peer Ki Gali on Surankote-Shopian road had been made through for traffic, source said. Executive Engineer, Mughal Road, Maqbool Hussain, when contacted, told Early Times that the snow clearnce work was going on in full swing and would be completed shortly. Executive Engineer, Mechanical Division, Rajouri, in a communiqué issued here today said that they were maintaining a vigil on the progress of work. Had there been no fresh snowfall, the road would have been thrown open to vehicular traffic by now. The work got late due to avalanches, the communiqué said. |
