Youth pelted stones on School Excursion Bus, one held

Mendhar, June 4: Panic gripped entire Mendhar town when a group of drunken youths pelted stones on a bus ferrying students of Govt High School Ughhap to an excursion when it stopped at Bus Stand Mendhar here this evening, local reports said. Locals and parents agitated over the incident staged a protest against the miscreants and demanded action against them.
According to some eye witnesses, a group of local youths allegedly in intoxicated state all of sudden started pelting stones on a bus bearing registration No JK02BC-0857 just few minutes after the students on board de-boarded. "The school children were on an excursion trip to Basuni in Balakote and the students have just arrived and the incident took place when some one or two odd students were in the bus," they said.
"However the Bus driver Kewal Krishan of Nowshera (Rajouri) got critical injuries in the stone pelting incident as the front window pane glass got broken while few children also received minor injuries the sources said.
Hearing the news about the ugly incident, the locals and parents of children staged a protest against the administration demanding arrest of the miscreants involved in the stone pelting incident. They alleged only a SPO was present there at the Bus Stand while other cops on security duty were not present on the place of duty. Had they been there than the things might be different, they said.
When contacted Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Mendhar, Shahid Naeem told Early Times that a stone pelting incident on a school excursion bus at Mendhar occurred this evening when some miscreants stated to be under influence of alcohol pelted stones on bus. "We have arrested one of them identified as Zafar Iqbal S/o Mohd Shafeeq Naz a local BJP Leader of Chhattral, while hunt is on for others who are absconding..
