Traffic officer punishes ASI, PHQ absolves him of blame | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, June 4: Even as a senior traffic police officer punished an ASI for failing to meet the revenue collection target which he had given him, PHQ absolved him of the blame, saying he can't be punished over such a 'non-issue'. Traffic police ASI Ashok Singh was reprimanded by a senior officer of the department for failing to meet the target of number of challans and revenue collection in October 2013. In November 2013, the officer deputed Jammu north traffic police DSP to find out the reason behind it vide his order No 370. The DSP submitted his inquiry report to the officer through his SSP on February 5, 2014, urging him to forgive the ASI and assuring him that in future, he would do his work in a better way. Not satisfied with the DSP's report, the officer punished the ASI on February 21, 2014 vide his order No 84, police sources said. The ASI then wrote to the officer to forgive him, but when he did not take a lenient view, he approached the PHQ, stating that he had been wrongly punished and was being harassed for the past three years without any fault of his, the sources added. Taking a cognizance of his complaint, PHQ got the matter investigated on its own and found out that the ASI had been wrongly punished. It held the view that there could be no target of challans because these 'are issued only to those who violate traffic rules'. So, under such a situation, it would be wrong to punish the ASI. Assailing the officer for punishing the ASI over a 'non-issue', the PHQ exonerated him of the blame vide its order No 1592 of 2016. |
