GMC students suffer in absence of electricity 6/4/2016 11:49:58 PM Nitesh Sangral Early Times Report Jammu, June 4: The heartless attitude of higher ups of Government Medical College and Hospital (GMC&H) Jammu can be gauged from the fact that the Post Graduate and Under Graduate Medical students are being forced to take shelter in hotels' room to preparation of ongoing exam or forced to study under candle light as to long duration power cuts. Moreover, the higher ups of the hospital enjoying 'chill' of Air condition at their respective offices. Sources within GMC&H Jammu told Early Times that for last three days the electricity snapped in the hostels and more than 3 thousands medical students have affected due to power cuts and other basic facilities in the hostels. Numbers of times the matter has been taken up with Principal of the College and requested him to provide electricity for preparations of their ongoing exams but it seems the future of these students have been put on stake as Principal has least bothered to resdressal the basic problems. "Whenever, the students group was approached to Principal, instead of doing efforts and approach of higher ups of State Health and Medical Education Department for the help, he indirectly dined to solve the problems by saying that "we don't have funds for it', "Sources alleged and adding that students were forced to come on roads and stage protest to provide basic facilities which is responsibility of higher ups of the concern. A group of medical students told Early Times that prolonged power cuts are affecting study schedules of students threatening their grades in examinations in ongoing exams. Most of the students from far flung areas who are staying in the hostels and unscheduled power cuts have disturbed their study schedules putting their future at stake. According to them, awaiting electricity for hours is a physical and mental torture to them. Some of them claimed that due to power cuts which caused water shortages. They demanded that the higher ups arrange alternative power supplies for them.
