Govt faces heat over bunglings in preparation of BPL lists | | | Asif Iqbal Naik Early Times Report
Srinagar June 4: The BJP-PDP ministers in government of Jammu and Kashmir today faces heat from opposition as well as from ruling party MLAs over the bungling in preparation of BPL list in the state alleging that poor and deserving people were kept outside while influential people including rich has been showed in BPL category thus deprived the real beneficiaries. The Legislative Assembly today witnessed heated arguments and debate over the issue when both rulling as well as opposition members raised supplementary questions in support of A.Q No. 1147 of MLA Kamal Verma wherein the MLA demanded the steps taken for proper identification of BPL families in the state for issuance of new ration cards to them to ensure full coverage of this poor population under the schemes in vogue. Launching a scathing attack on the government, National Conference MLA Javed Rana slams the government for ignoring the deserving and poor and accuses that officers are selling the aspirations of the poor people for the sake of corruption and demanded action against such officials involved in issuing BPL ration cards to non deserving persons added that some people have even double ration cards. Rural Development minister Abdul Haq Khan was replying on behalf of Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CA&PD) Minister while accepting the mistake said that government is looking into the matter added that they are revisiting the list and assured that deserving people will get BPL ration cards. Congress MLA from Banihal Vikar Rasool Wani slams the government for fixing of 60:40 ratio added that BPL means BPL and there is no need to fix any criteria with regard to fixing of ratio. He said that some of his areas are 100% BPL areas in his constituency and demanded BPL ration cards to each deserving family without fixing any criteria. He also slammed the government for carrying out BPL survey through different departments added that on scrutiny of the lists prepared by the different departments, the lists has no uniformity as the list prepared by various departments are different to each. Congress MLA from Banihal wants to frame a single joint committee which will prepare a single list of genuine and deserving persons. PDP MLA Yawar Mir also takes on his government and question the BPL list added that there is huge disparity in preparation of the list. He questioned the Finance Minister on account of possibility of implementation of 30 unit free electricity for BPL families added that at the time when government under National Food Security Act classified the people on the bases of Priority and Non Priority category. He said that there is no mention of BPL under NFSA and demanded that government should revisit the list so that poor and deserving people will get the benefit. MLA Ramnagar Ranbir Singh Pathania also shows his concern towards the issue. Opposition National Conference (NC) and Congress members today staged a walkout from the Legislative Assembly after Speaker Kavinder Gupta did not allow them to ask supplementary question on National Food Security Act (NFSA) and transparency in food distribution in the State. The NC and Congress members wanted to know the progress on providing ration cards to Below Poverty Line (BPL) families and food distribution by CA&PD in the state. Replying to various supplementary raised by the MLAs Abdul Haq Khan assured them that the concern showed by the members will be looked into. |
