JAMMU, June 4: Jammu has the highest fatalities in road accidents as compared to other districts of the state where killer roads have been claiming average three lives a day. Jammu also tops the list of traffic violations, according to official sources. 917 people were killed in different road accidents across the state in 2015. Of them, 129 lost their lives in Jammu, followed by 108 in Udhampur, 85 in Samba, 84 in Kathua and 63 in Srinagar. 2,03,545 violators of traffic laws were challaned this year in Jammu district. The figure was the highest of all other districts of the state, sources said. In 2014, 992 people were killed in road accidents in J&K. Of them, 165 lost their lives on the killer roads of Jammu district, 100 in Rajouri, 92 in Ramban and 58 in Srinagar. During this period, the highest 2,03,922 violators of traffic laws were challaned by police in Jammu. Of the 990 people killed in road accidents in J&K in 2013, 213 lost their lives in Jammu district, 69 in Samba, 62 in Kathua and 59 in Srinagar. 1,91,796 violators were challaned on Jammu roads this year. 1,165 people lost their lives across the state in 2012. Of them, 204 were killed in Jammu district, 119 in Ramban, 95 in Samba, 91 in Kathua and six in Srinagar. This year, 1,50,049 violators of traffic laws were booked in Jammu district. 1,121 people fell victim to road accidents in the state in 2011. Of them, 190 were killed in Jammu district, 119 in Ramban, 88 in Kathua, 89 in Udhampur and 75 in Srinagar. 1,30,197 challans were effected this year. The state witnessed 1,073 deaths in road accidents in 2010. Of them, 192 lost their lives in Jammu district, 116 in Kathua, 94 in Ramban and 55 in Srinagar. 53,235 violators of traffic laws were challaned this year. |
