Early Times Report Reasi, June 13: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-J) organized one day farmers training programme on "Layout of orchards and monsoon plantation" at Khairal village of Pouni block in Reasi district. Large number of farmers' enthuastically participated in the programme. The programme was initiated by Dr. Banarsi Lal, I/C KVK, Reasi with the warm welcome of the farmers. He narrated that production of sub-tropical fruits like mango, litchi, citrus, guava, pomegranate etc. is very low in the district although there is immense potential of sub-tropical fruits in the district. He suggested the farmers that by applying the new scientific technologies they can increase their fruit production. He further narrated that farmers should use the improved/hybrid varieties of sub-tropical fruits viz. mango, litchi, citrus, guava, ber etc. He further added that the farmers of the area should divert themselves from subsistence farming to commercial farming and encouraged them for the formation of Self Help Groups(SHGs). He elaborated certain government schemes /programmes ongoing in the district specifically for the orchardists. He elaborated certain important scientific guidelines to increase their fruit production. Dr. Suja Nabi Qureshi, scientist elaborated production technologies of sub-tropical fruits. He emphasized specifically on methods of layout of orchards and training and pruning of temperate fruits. He suggested the farmers that canopy management is promptly needed in sub-tropical fruits. |
