Twice approved by JU Council, Diploma in Media Studies yet to start | | | G S Asgotra Early Times Report JAMMU, June 13: Blame it on the administrative inertia in the University of Jammu, the diploma course in Media studies could not take off despite lapse of 12 years and approval of the Council twice. Reliable source informed Early Times that in the previous two Council meeting which were held in the years of 2004 and 2008, wherein approval was given for the establishment of the Centre of Media Studies in the campus, so that the students got the opportunities in the fast growing field of electronic media or print media. It is pertinent to mention here that after both the Council meetings, it was announced to start one year diploma course in media studies which would be completed in two semesters and the newly the Centre would have developed on the pattern of either A J Kidwai Mass Communication Research Centre, Jamia Millia Islamia or Indian Institute of Mass Communication of New Delhi but owing to the lackadaisical approach of the administration, the course remained a non starter", source said. The source further said that however, the Central University of Jammu (CUJ) which came into existence in 2011, established media studies department in 2014 and now the first batch shall complete its degree. The callous approach of JU can be gauged from this fact that despite the fact that mass media as a career field is growing leaps and bounds , neither the previous Vice Chancellor nor the incumbent VC has taken keen interest to develop the same department in JU so far. |
