Rashid wants Govt to book pilgrims under PSA; BJP silent | Abhinav Gupt Yatra | | ET Report SRINAGAR, June 13: The MLA with separatist leanings Er Rashid stirred the hornet's nest on Monday by asking the government to slap Public Safety Act (PSA) against the pilgrims who reached Beerwah and tried to embark on Abhinav Gupt Yatra. Rashid asked the government why yatris were reaching Beerwah in central Kashmir's Budgam district when the Education Minister and government spokesperson Naeem Akhtar had said the yatra wouldn't be allowed. "When protesting youths are booked under PSA in downtown Srinagar why the same law can't be invoked against these people who have come here to disturb law and order. You are adopting double standards. Use same laws against these people which you are using against Palhallan and other youth," Rashid said. "Rashid has developed a habit to poke his nose in all the issues, without caring whether they fall within his domain or not. He should mind his business and stay away from the sensitive issues," said a BJP leader. An analyst while talking to Early Times said, "Rashid leaves no opportunity to target the nationalist people and support the anti-nationals. He is the one who hosted beef party in Srinagar and tried his best to polarize the environment. He behaves like separatists despite enjoying all the privileges as a legislator." He said, "It's strange that pilgrims who had arrived with a message of peace were sent back by the government and an elected representative is demanding that they should be booked under PSA. It's ridiculous. The Jammu and Kashmir government should seek an apology from the pilgrims for not allowing them to embark on Yatra to Abhinav Gupt cave." A politician said, "The state government should take a serious note of the utterances of an elected MLA and he should be taken to task for insulting the pilgrims. One fails to understand why Police doesn't book him for sedition." He said, "Rashid needs to mend his ways otherwise government would be left with no other option other than taking a legal action against him. He (Rashid) derives sadistic pleasure by insulting nationalist elements and by praising anti-nationals." A political observer said, "BJP should take a note of Rashid spitting venom against pilgrims and should ask him to tender an apology for hurting the sentiments of a particular community." He said, "BJP is fast losing ground in Jammu region from where it won 25 assembly seats. It's really strange that despite BJP being a part of the government it cannot do anything and its ministers act as second fiddle." |
