Some media outlets damaging Kashmir's image: CM | | | Majid Nabi Srinagar, June 13: Taking potshots at national media for portraying negative picture of Kashmir, Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Monday said the image of Kashmir has been tarnished by some media outlets by branding Kashmiri people as 'militants and stone throwers'. Talking to media after meeting the family of a boatman Gulam Mohammad Guroo at Rajbagh who drowned while saving some tourists in river Jehlum near Fateh Kadal Foot Bridge last week, she said " not everyone but few media outlets have tarnished the image of Kashmir by branding people of Kashmir as militants and stone palters" Citing example of a poor boatman who lost his life while saving some tourists after his boat capsized in Jehlum last week, CM said " what media has been portraying is not the actual picture of Kashmir, but the poor boatman presented the real picture of Kashmir and Kashmiriyat" She said that the boatman who was poor without caring for his life jumped into the river and saved tourists from drowning. "I pay my salaam to this brave heart and honest person, he made entire valley proud, he was survived with brother two little children and wife," Mehbooba said. Mehbooba also assured the deceased family that government will make every possible measure to help them. "I met his family today and assured them that government will extend every possible support to them," she added. Pertinent to mention here that the body of sixty year boatman Gulam Mohammad Guroo of Rajbagh was fished out from Jhelum this afternoon. Brave heart Guroo saved three tourists from drowning in the Jhelum in Srinagar but was himself swept away after he was allegedly forced to jump back into the river to retrieve their bag. Eyewitnesses said that the boat capsized during a cruise on the river on Wednesday evening. After saving the three tourists, Guroo jumped back into the river and even got hold the bag but could not swim back to the bank due to exhaustion. The unidentified tourists, whom other boatmen claimed to, have seen coaxing Guroo to return to the river, allegedly left the spot in a hurry. |
