Anti-India seminar is non-event for BJP | Media under attack | | Early Times Report JAMMU, June 13: Separatists, including Geelani and Mirwaiz finally got permission to hold anti-India seminar in Srinagar on Sunday and the theme of the seminar was no colonies for Sainiks and Kashmiri Hindus. The event evoked a very sharp reaction with many news channels expressing grave concern over the anti-India event. National channel even organized one-hour-long debate on the issue. All the participants, barring those representing the BJP, the NC and the Jamaat-e-Islami, condemned the event and said again and again that this was the way the world ends not with bang but with whimper. They questioned New Delhi's policy towards Kashmiri separatists and in one voice said that situation in Kashmir would turn extremely hostile towards India if the powers-that-be in the state and at the centre continued to soft paddle scourge of terrorism and separatism. The NC and the Jamaat-i-Islami, as was expected, sided with Kashmiri separatists, saying it was the fundamental right of the separatists to hold seminar and say what they said about the non-existent Sainik colony and non-existent townships for Kashmiri Hindus. However, it was a BJP leader who left the NC and the Jamaat-i-Islami spokespersons far behind. Attacking the media, he said: "For the BJP, it was a non-event. For us the anti-India seminar has no meaning. They (separatists) are bunch of people who have no support and they are Pakistani agents. They represent Pakistan". When asked why did the state police on Saturday night put the separatists under house arrest and why were they set free on Sunday, the BJP leader spoke a white lie. He said: "They were set free on the court direction. India is a democratic country. We can't go against the court directions. I am not aware if the separatists organized any seminar on Sunday. You media people are giving importance to the separatists. Stop giving space to them. We are focusing only on developmental issues. You media people make mountains out of molehills". The BJP leader, who was grilled by the anchor, only beat about the bush as he had nothing to defend the BJP and its policy towards Kashmiri separatists. Indeed, the BJP on Sunday blackened its face beyond recognition by saying what it said and that too at prime time, when most of people watch news channel. |
