120849 Sq Kms J&K land under illegal occupation of Pakistan, China | Chenab valley contributes Rs. 7258.3452 crore to JKSPDC | | Early Times Report Srinagar, June 13: The government of Jammu and Kashmir today said that out of the 222236 Sq Kms existing area of the state of Jammu and Kashmir prior to 1947, 120849 Sq Kms is under the illegal occupation of Pakisatn and China. In reply to CQ.No. 147 of Congress MLC Deputy Secretary to Government Revenue Department on behalf of Minister in charge revenue stated that land presently under the control of Jammu and Kashmir government comprises of 26293 Sq Kms of Jammu Division, 15948 Sq Kms of Kashmir Division and 59146 Sq Kms of Ladakh Division while 120849 Sq Kms is under the illegal occupation of Pakistan and China. In reply to another question o MLC , the government stated that it has no proposal for consideration of creation of Chenab Valley Affairs Department as government has already opened several administrative units already in the area that involves huge financial implications and manpower. In another question regarding the contribution of Chenab region in the state exchequer from power projects, water usage charge, forests, mineral and others, the government reply stated that there is an income of Rs. 7258.3452 crores to Jammu and Kashmir State Power Development Corporation on account of power generation and extraction of minerals and others to the state government from Chenab region while all other projects on Jhelum Basin (Rs 420.30 Crore), Tawi Basin (Rs. 43.34 crore), Ravi Basin (10.53 crore) and Indus basin (32.17 crore) is 1553.7428 crore. There are three power projects established in Chenab basin which include Baghliar HEP Ramban run by the JKSPDC while Salal and Dool-hasti HEP are run by NHPC. As per the government reply, Baghliar HEP generate Rs. 1232.21 crore, Salal HEP generate Rs. 1860.66 crore and Dool-Hasti HEP generates Rs 544.59 Crore as revenue for the state government. In addition to this, a revenue of Rs. 1274.62 lakhs has been generated by the forest department from auction of trees/plants, beside from the total sale of Jammu region during 2015-16 approximately 75% sticks are from Chenab valley yielding a revenue of Rs. 37 crore and VAT about Rs. 5 crore. The department of Geology and mining contributed Rs. 12953190 and revenue from Gypsum mines at Parlanka Ramban is 228.89 Lakhs and from Gypsum mines Assar Doda is Rs. 140 lakhs. Thus the revenue contributed in the state economy is much higher from Jammu division as compared to other two divisions of the state. |
