Early Times Report
Srinagar, June 13:Not even a single Kashmiri crossed over to Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) while seven guests from across the Line of Control (LoC) arrived at Kaman post, the last Indian military post on this side of the border. This was for the third successive week that no Kashmiri crossed over to the other side of LoC. Official sources said nine returnees also crossed sides at the post after crossing the Aman Setu, peace bridge on foot this afternoon. They said seven PoK residents, including three women and two children, arrived here to meet their relatives, separated in 1947 due to partition. The number of Kashmiri residents crossing to other side of the LoC increases during winter, while number of guests from POK increases during summer. Nine PoK residents, who had come here in previous Karvan-e-Aman buses to meet their relatives, returned to their homes after completing stay here, including three women and two children. The bus service has helped thousands of families, separated due to partition, to meet each other after India and Pakistan agreed to allow travel of divided families, on Permits instead of International passports, to meet each other since the first bus was flagged off by the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on April 7, 2005. |
