Immoral trafficking, crime against women increases in J&K | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, June 13: Crime against women has witnessed increase, barring dowry death and suppression of immoral trafficking cases which has recorded a decrease during the year 2015 as against the previous year. Meanwhile, instructions have been issued to all District Superintendents of Police (SPs) to make special efforts to investigate all cases related to crime against women properly under immediate supervisory guidance and that Special Investigation Team (SITs) may be constituted for the purpose. This information was given in the Legislative Council today to a question by Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, said during the last three year, the crime against women has shown a fluctuating trend with decrease during the year 2014 as compared to the year 2013 and slight increase during the year 2015 as compared to previous year. The reply said during 2014, a total of 3535 cases of crime against women cases, including rape, gang rape, kidnapping and abduction of women and girls, molestation and outraging, abetment of suicide of women victim, cruelty by husband or relatives of husband, dowry restraint prohibition and suppression of immoral trafficking were registered and it was 3539 during the 2015. One case each, of rape, kidnapping and abduction was reopened in 2014 while only one case of kidnapping was recorded last year. Out of total 5,010 pending cases of previous year (2014) and fresh registered during the 2015, 955 were not admitted while 2361 were challaned 102 are untraced, the reply said. There were 351 rape cases during 2014 while the number was 312 last yeat. The number of kidnapping cases was 1,097 last year against 826 cases in 2014, the reply said. Against 1,411 cases of molestation and outraging during 2014, it was 1342 during last year, eve-teasing 307 in 2014 and 215 during 2015. Dowry death cases has witnessed an increase as against five in 2014 it was 6 last year, the reply said adding that the cases of abetment to suicide was 164 during 2014 and 166 during 2015. Cruelty by husband or relatives of husband has also witnessed a drop. As against 469 in 2014 it was 400 last year. The reply said during the year 2015, 1322 cases were under investigation, 11382 previous cases under trial, 469 compounded, 129 cases convicted, 1751 cases acquitted and total cases under trial at the end of the year 11,664. The Chief Minister said all out efforts are being made by the prosecution staff deployed in various courts to ensure timely presence of witnesses to secure conviction of the accused. The reply said measures have been taken to ensure timely processing of warrants, dockets and monitoring and following trials in the courts by prosecution staff. The concerned Superintendents of Police have been directed to conduct crime monitoring meetings on monthly basis to get the first hand information about the investigation and progress in trial of such cases. |
