Guru Hargobind birth anniversary celebrated with religious fervour, gaiety | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, June 21 : The birth anniversary of Guru Hargobind was today celebrated with religious fervour and gaiety in the Kashmir valley. Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra and Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti have greeted the people on the occasion. Chairman of All Parties Sikh Coordination Committee (APSCC) Jagmohan Singh Raina also greeted the people. Members of the Sikh community, wearing colourful dresses, were also seen visiting Gurdwaras and other religious places this morning. However, the main congregation was held at Gurudwara Chatipadshahi in the downtown on the foothill of Kohi-e-Maran , where the shrine of Hazrat Sheikh Hamza Makhdoom and a temple are located. Devotees, including women and children, from different parts of the valley were seen thronging the Gurdwara since early morning to participate in the special prayers. Free lanagars were also set up for the devotees. The district authorities had made all arrangements for the festival on the birth anniversary of 6th Guru of the Sikh community, who visited almost all parts of the Kashmir valley before going to Pakistan via Amritsar. Similar prayer meetings were also held in other Gurdwaras in the city, including Jawahar Nagar and Sanant Nagar. They were also held in other parts of the valley, including Tral, Pulwama, Baramulla and central Kashmir . Large number of devotees also took part in the special prayers at historic Gurdwara, associated with Guru Hargobindji at Uri, about 100 km from here in north Kashmir. Guruji also visited Baramulla, Pulwama and other places when he visited Kashmir with Mughal Emperor after the martyrdom of Guru Arjun Devji, APSCC chairman said. He said Guruji believed that religion and politics should go together to serve the mandkind better. Mr Vohra expressed sincere hope that the celebration of this auspicious day would strengthen the bonds of amity, harmony and brotherhood and be a harbinger of peace, progress and prosperity in the state. The Governor observed that Guru Hargobindji's noble example of selfless service, based on the high values of righteousness, truth and love, is more relevant today than at any time in the past. The Governor prayed for the well-being of the people of the state. In her message of greetings, the Chief Minister said J&K has rich tradition of celebrating auspicious occasions all the religions and festivals in an environment of amity and brotherhood.She also prayed for peace and prosperity of the state. |
