Leaking roofs in GMCH leave patients in lurch | | | Early Times Report Jammu, July 21: Mocking at the claims of the department of Health and Medical Education and the GMCH administration, the patients admitted in the 'premier' healthcare centre of the region had to face nightmare Tuesday morning when the roofs of several wards started leaking like open taps, impelling attendants to shift the beds of their patients helter skelter to save them from dripping water. Attendants were seen running around to inform everyone from watch and ward staff to the doctors, but nothing could have been done as the problem of leaking roofs of the GMCH has persisted for years, with administration turning a blind eye to the problem which can cause major catastrophe. "This is pathetic that biggest hospital of the state is leaking and patients have nowhere to go" said Rajesh Pangotra, an attendant. Sources in the hospital told Early Times that lakhs of rupees are spent on up-gradation and renovation works on various parts of the hospital every year but they failed to repair the leaking roofs. When contacted Medical Superintendent of GMC&H Jammu Dr Ravinder Rattan Pal said that the instructions were issued to identify the leakage and promptly attend to it. |
