BJP's assertion on Article 370 misleading
Politics of bluff

Early Times Report

JAMMU, June 21: Are the people of Jammu and Kashmir, nay of the entire country, fool, politically immature and incompetent to understand what the BJP says in its desperate attempt to hoodwink and mislead them? Yes, if one goes by the approach the BJP adopts on the eve of and during the election campaign. On the eve of election and during the election campaign, the BJP leaders rake up emotive issues like Ram Temple, Uniform Civil Code and Article 370 to arouse popular passions and garner votes like they did in Jammu and Kashmir in 2014 to mislead the nationalists in the state in general and Jammu and Ladakh in particular and after wining election and coming into power throw these issues to the wind. It's nothing but politics of bluff and deceit.
Not one but many BJP leaders, including the BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, in 2014 gave everyone in Jammu and Kashmir to understand that the BJP, if voted to power in the state, will organize debate on Article 370 to find if it had benefited the people or harmed the state and its people and had also held out a solemn commitment that it would abrogate this Article in case the nation expressed itself against Article 370. The BJP leaders had made several other promises to garner votes. The people of Jammu and Ladakh and Kashmiri Hindus pinned faith in the BJP and gave it a massive mandate both in the general election as well as Assembly elections. Paradoxically, the BJP took a complete U-turn after coming into power at the centre and the lady who brought the entire BJP leadership to her knees was none other than Hina Bhat of Kashmir who in November 2014 (in the middle of the election campaign in Jammu and Kashmir) threatened that she would turn militant and pick up gun in case the BJP raked up Article 370 during the election campaign or tinker even slightly with the state's special status.
It is no secret that the BJP appreciated Hina Bhat of Bandukwali and didn't release the election manifesto as it contained a reference to Article 370. The BJP didn't release it despite the fact that it had been duly approved and had also been printed.
On Monday, the BJP again raked up Article 370 and Ram Temple issue but said it would work on these at appropriate time. "The BJP has not given up Ram Temple and Article 370 issues and the party will focus on these at an appropriate time," Union Minister Harsh Vardhan said in Ratlam (MP). "The BJP's top priority is 'Rashtriya Dharm'. Ram Temple, Article 370 (which grants special autonomous status to Jammu and Kashmir) have not been left. Right now, the party is working on common programme of the alliance (NDA)," he said, adding that "the party will work on the two issues at the appropriate time".
The Union Minister was not right when he said that the NDA Government was working as per the common minimum programme. For, the present NDA didn't work out any such arrangement before or after coming into power. The BJP leader only misled the people of Madhya Pradesh. The BJP also exposed itself when he said Article 370 and Ram Temple were on the agenda on its agenda. Perhaps, the BJP minister was unaware of the political developments which unfolded in Jammu and Kashmir after October 2014. Or, should it be presumed that he knew everything but he thought it politically prudent not to reveal the truth.
Remember, the crucial elections to the UP assembly are round the corner and the BJP election managers know that if the BJP was to win election in UP, they have no other option but to adopt ambiguous stand on Article 370 and Ram Temple. They know that the Prime Minister and 11 Ashoka Road are not committed to abrogating Article 370 and building Ram Temple as they have to cater to the sentiments of the Muslims in the country to prove their secular credentials. That's the reason the Union minister talked about Article 370 and Ram Temple and left the people of MP guessing by not giving a timeline.
