Centre angry over snapping net services in Jammu

Early Times Report

Jammu, June 21: The home ministry is miffed over continuous and consistent snapping of internet facilities in the Jammu by the state government. Sources said the ministry has sought detailed reasons for this step. The ministry has also advised the state government to not make it a practice. "Snapping net services once in a while is understandable. But making it a regular feature especially in the Jammu region, which is not affected by the militancy, is uncalled for. It gives a wrong message nationally and internationally,' said the senior home ministry official.
The home ministry holds the view that snapping net services , which has become a routine affair, has the potential of sending a message internationally that the entire J&K is 'disturbed' and it goes against the stated policy and plans of the central government. "Snapping net services regurarly in J&K, which is always under the watch of international community, sends the message that the entire state is disturbed. It goes against the policy of the central government that the disturbance in the state is limited to some pockets of the Kashmir valley at the behest of Pakistan and not the entire state," said the official.
The ministry has asked the state government to direct officials to handle the situation in a more matured manner and get the things worked out locally by engaging the public at their own, rather than first going to snap down the services, which is not just an important but is probably the only services under the watch of the international community. "Net services are down in mostly autocractic countries and not in democratic countries. And they face the most hard criticisms. The local administration must take this view in the mind. In this inter-connected world, snapping services sends the message that some thing is terribly wrong and this is not the message we want to be spread out globally especially with respect to the J&K," said the official.
