Jammu, June 21: Repeated breakdown of internet services at the behest of administration is reflecting on the incapability of the administrative machinery to pre-empt, stop and act against untoward incidents seen in Jammu and its adjoining areas in recent time. Besides, the repeated disruptions are confronting law abiding citizens with huge inconvenience without any fault on theirs. "For over five days in last one week, the internet services have been de activated and administration has made it a norm to withdraw the internet services every time there is an incident in the city" said Sudhir, a local businessman. "Public services cannot be withdrawn like this at the drop of the hat, there has to be norms to define situations which warrant withdrawal of such public services" he added castigating the act of the administration to immediately withdraw internet whenever there is any incident. Administration ordered withdrawal of internet services after the sacrilegious act in Aap Shambhu temple last week and just as the services were being restored, they were withdrawn yet again after similar incident in Nanak Nagar area. Now, after the services were restored for two days, once again the services were withdrawn following insignificant incidents at Poonch and Bari Brahmana. "Subscribers are subjected to cumulative losses running into lakhs due to disruption of internet services, besides huge inconvenience to businessmen, students and professionals, besides affecting normal working in government offices, banks, post offices etc. The repeated withdrawal of services is also a reflection on the incapability of the police and civil administration to preempt such incidents as seen in Jammu in recent past. "With Amarnath Yatra around the corner, it is imperative for police to have heightened vigil and patrolling, but the incidents as seen in Roop Nagar indicated that Police had failed to act in professional manner even after the incident, allowing the situation to flare up" said Dharampal Gupta, a chemist. Meanwhile, certain political and social groups have demanded compensation for the subscribers for the repeated disruptions in internet services.
