Government succumbs to separatists, modifies Industrial Policy-2016 | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, June 21: After abandoning pro-Jammu agenda for enjoying power, the "nationalist" BJP has once again meekly surrendered before its coalition partner by allowing modification in the existing industrial policy. The present government was following the same industrial policy but separatists and other groups have raised objection over allowing non-state subject in establishing industrial estates and IT parks in the State. PDP leadership, as usual, started echoing sentiments of separatists. BJP was opposing any modification in the existing policy but today government issues new order to modify the Industrial Policy 2016. The Government today ordered modification of Industrial Policy-2016 with the deletion of controversial para 2.11.2 from the said policy. "In partial modification of Government Order No. 58-IND of 2016 dated 15.03.2016, para 2.11.2 of Industrial Policy-2016 shall be deemed to have been deleted ab-initio and shall be read as; Private promoters only from the State (including local industrial associations) shall be allowed and encouraged to develop private industrial estates/parks on commercial lines on activity-specific cluster basis over an area of at least 5 acres. In case of IT Parks, the minimum requirement will be 2 acres for housing IT units in flatted accommodation," said an order issued by the Commissioner/Secretary Industries and Commerce Department this evening. It further said while the Government will go all out to attract investment in Industrial Estates or elsewhere in the state by providing an enabling environment and incentives, it will be ensured that these are governed by and are in compliance of J&K's existing administrative practice, regulatory norms and the Constitution of J&K. Separatists led by Syed Ali Geelani had warned that "if the public reservations regarding the new industrial policy are not cleared, the pro-freedom leadership will come up with a joint strategy to counter this move." "The revelation of the Chander Prakash Ganga has confirmed that the discussions which were going on in the assembly on the new industrial policy and which lasted for many days was just a 'drama' and was a waste of time for both the public and the house," Geelani had said in a statement. Other separatist leaders including Mirwaiz Umar Farooq had also asked government to roll-back new industrial policy or face agitation. |
