Drinking water source at verge of extinction, authorities in slumber | | | Early Times Report Jammu, June 21: The source of drinking water for the people of Jatheli and its adjoining areas is at the verge of extinction due to the unplanned construction work which has resulted into strong resentment among the locals against officials of Public Health Engineering (PHE) and Road and Building (R&B) Department for their failure to protect the water resource of area.According to the locals, the R &B department has started the construction of link road from Jatheli to Malwana and the road alignment is passing very close to traditional source of water for the locals. Locals apprehended that the ongoing construction work will soon make the traditional water source to extinct besides contaminated but none is bothered about the existence of the water source.Locals also feared that the threat to the said water resource will result into the water scarcity in the area and lamented that despite repeated requests the concerned authorities yet have not taken any action to protect the water resource in the area. "The concerned departments are least bothered or have utterly failed to understand the gravity of the situation if the said water resource is threatened or goes dry, locals added. The people of Jatheli and adjoining areas have raised their voice against the alleged callous attitude of the two departments and have urged the officials at the helms of affairs in R&B and PHE Departments to restrain from the construction of the road beside the water resource and demanded to realign the road project from any point but away from the source of water. The locals also have requested to MLA Doda to personally intervene in the matter and pass due directions to the concerned departments to realign the link road far from water source. |
