Jammu, June 21 : Though it was longest day of the year but not the hottest in this winter capital of the state, with temperature dipping five to six degrees Celsius from above normal after season's first heavy rain lashed here. Heavy rains this morning lashed the winter capital this dipping the mercury while the city got choked and life came to standstill due to waterlogged roads. Maulana Azad Stadium, the venue for celebrating International Yoga Day, where the Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh was the chief guest, submerged in the water while the participants rushed to the pavilion for shelter. However, the maximum temperature recorded today was 32.8 degrees and the minimum was 20.8 degrees. Met Section spokesman said on the basis of rainfall in Jammu and Kashmir and after fulfilling other criterions, IMD has declared arrival of Monsoon in J&K 10 days ahead of normal arrival date scheduled for July 1. ''Light to moderate shower likely expected during next 24 hours in Jammu and Kashmir,'' he said and added that some places in plains of Jammu may receive a spell of Heavy shower during next 24 hours. |
