Let Pakistan take note of three conditions laid down by India | | | Despite the fact that India has claimed that Prime Minister, Narendra Modi has been instrumental for promoting cordial ties with Pakistan because of his personal rapport with Nawaz Sharif, New Delhi has made it clear that talks and terror cannot coexist. In shor the External Affairs Minister, Sushma Swaraj, has made it clear that though the doors for dialogue were open but any progress was possible once Pakistan stopped using its territory for exporting terror to India, especially to Jammu and Kashmir. When Sushma voiced these views she had in mind the recent increase in the level of militancy related violence in Jammu and Kashmir and an equal rise in the level of infiltration. She may have in mind the recent incidents of killing of scores of militants, especially infiltrators in north sector of Kupwara of Kashmir. She may in her mind the loss of a group of soldiers, paramilitary personnel and police in encounters and ambushes by the militants.Though this policy seems to be a bit confusing because on one hand she has claimed that Modi has been instrumental for promoting cordial ties with Pakistan on the other hand she wants Pakistan to stop exporting terror to India if Islamabad wanted to get the talks going. There was in fact nothing new in the policy divulged by the External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj as reiterated that 'talks and terror can't go together', even as she pointed out the rapport between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif. She referred to Modi's December visit to Lahore which, she said, took place without any prior arrangements. This time, especially with reference to Pakistan, Swaraj had nothing new to say. She explained that the government was pursuing a three-point formula to deal with Pakistan. "First, we want to solve every issue through talks. Second, talks will be held only between India and Pakistan without involving third party.. Third, terror and talks will not go hand in hand,. With regards to the Pathankot attacks, she merely reiterated that Pakistan had not refused to allow the NIA team to visit that country to probe the attack and had merely sought "more time". Swaraj said the Indian High Commissioner in Islamabad had met the authorities twice on the matter and "they said they are analysing the evidence". The Minister said it was owing to the Modi-Sharif camaraderie that the ties had moved forward. "This warmth and simplicity in relations between two Prime Ministers were not there in the past," she said. If not anything else Pakistan need to keep in mind three conditions laid down by Sushma. And the most important condition is that Pakistan should stop using its soil for exporting terror to India.Once Islamabad does so India will have no other option but to reopen the doors of dialogue. And India is sincere in reopening the channels of dialogue. However, it does not depend on Nawaz Sharif while in India whether to hold talks or not depends on Modi and his Government. It is so because Nawaz Sharif continues to be a pawn in the Pakistan Army's chess board. Sharif is not in a position to issue directions or suggestions to the Army and the ISI.Hence Nawaz Sharif should motivate the Army authorities to opt for dialogue instead of exporting terror to India because during the last 30 years exporting terror has neither led to any political turmoil nor undermined India's political stability and sovereignty. |
