CAF pledges to fight against discrimination with Jammu, help needy | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, July 2: J&K Citizen Advisory Forum (CAF), a newly constituted body having retired bureaucrats, an ex-high court judge and journalists as its members, today vowed to fight against discrimination with Jammu at political level, in professional colleges and in other spheres of life, besides helping the poor, widows and the children of lesser god. At the outset of its maiden meeting held here, its chairman and retired chief engineer (development commissioner) I C Jandial introduced office bearers and governing body members to the participants and asserted that the basic aim of forming CAF was to serve the people, especially those whose living conditions were extremely poor, and provide them a platform from where they could raise their voice against the discrimination being meted out to them by different government functionaries. He called upon the members to join hands and work unitedly so that CAF becomes a force to reckon with. "If members want CAF to grow stronger, they all need to be dedicated to the cause," he asserted. Earlier, retired high court judge and prominent social activist K K Gupta, who is CAF's patron-in-chief, gave a detailed account of the spheres on which the forum ought to focus while fighting for the cause of Jammuites. He said CAF must first of all touch the issues likes improper drainage system, irregular power supply and other such problems in the City of Temples. He assured the members that the forum would take all possible steps to end discrimination with Jammu. CAF's governing body member, veteran politician and social activist Ratan Lal Gupta expressed concern over the political discrimination with Jammu and emphasised the need to fight for the just cause of Jammuites to end discrimination with them. Vice-Chairman and famed industrialist Arvind Mahajan said besides touching other important issues from time to time, the forum would continue to help the needy and poor people, besides putting in sincere efforts to improve the living conditions of the children of lesser god. General secretary and leading businessman Vijay Saraf gave a detailed account of the pathetic condition of the government and private hospitals in Jammu. He said the private hospitals in Jammu lacked infrastructure, faculty and professionalism. Narrating his personal experience which he recently underwent in a private hospital at Narwal, he said he was greatly pained to find that the health institute, which "boasts of providing the best medicare to the people, didn't have the faculty and infrastructure to treat his mother who had got her bone fractured. The circumstances forced me to ultimately shift her to a hospital in Amritsar where the requisite medicare was provided promptly and to my satisfaction". He said the forum would take up all such issues on priority and bring them to the notice of the authorities concerned. Treasurer K K Bhakhri and governing body members -- Dr Viney Mahajan, Vinod Luthra, Deepak Sethi, Hira Lal Abrol, Hari Singh Chib and R K Tikoo too highlighted various important issues. Ex-JMC commissioner Kiran Wattal, who is known in J&K's administrative circles more for his versatile ways of working, said the CAF would gain roots only when its actions 'match its words". He said there was an urgent need for such a platform in Jammu to highlight the acts of discrimination with the people here. Early Times Executive Editor Manish Gupta said the acts of discrimination with Jammu ought to be fought unitedly and hoped that CAF would achieve this objective by putting in sincere efforts. Senior journalist Bharat Bhushan asserted that CAF members would have to stand like a rock and should not bow down to any pressure from any quarter while pursuing their goals. He said CAF must also work in the direction of strengthening nationalist forces in the state and defeat the enemies of peace. The meeting ended with all the CAF representatives pledging to fight for the cause of Jammu and take every possible step to reach out to the needy and poor, besides widows who had no source of income after the demise of their husbands. |
