Early Times Report

Jammu, July 2: Crossing all limits of maturity and decency, the internal factionalism in Congress party in Jammu and Kashmir is now visible on streets as leaders of rival groups miss no opportunity to level allegations against each other.
In a latest incident, two senior leaders virtually came to blows during an Iftaar party, hosted by JKPCC president G A Mir at his residence. In the presence of senior party leaders, who included sitting legislators, former ministers, senior functionaries of the party and host JKPCC president, both leaders leveled serious allegations against each other. Both the leaders virtually came to blows and were separated by others present on the occasion, sources said and added that one of the two leaders left the Iftaar party in a huff after the incident. Interestingly, G A Mir, who had hosted the party and invited all the guests, did not try to calm both the leaders and also did not stop one of the leaders to leave the Iftaar party in the middle, sources informed.
According to the sources, the trouble erupted when one of the two leaders accused Ghulam Nabi Azad of sabotaging the party candidate in Anantnag by-election by not campaigning for the Congress despite being present in Kashmir for a week. As the other leader objected to hurling allegation against Azad, the leader turned his guns towards the former and dubbed him as stooge of Ghulam Nabi Azad.
Soon the arguments between two leaders turned into heated exchange of words and personal attacks against each other thus making the atmosphere of Iftaar party hostile and tense. Eyewitnesses said that the two leaders almost came to blows but were stopped by others present on the occasion.
However, despite being the host, sources said that G A Mir did not intervene and kept mum when the two senior leaders were fighting with each other with folded sleeves. Even as one of the two leaders was leaving the venue Mir did not try to stop him sources added.
Even as Congressmen in Mir's camp are describing the episode as spontaneous, sources said that everything was pre-planned to defame Ghulam Nabi Azad and shift the blame on him for the defeat of Congress candidate in Anantnag by-election.
