Dealer booked for selling underweight LPG cylinders | | | Saahil Suhail Early Times Report Anantnag, July 2: The Legal Metrology Department on Saturday booked 'Kiloo Gas agency Dooru' for selling underweight LPG cylinders to consumers despite Minister's last hour intervention. The dealer was also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 for the lapse and was directed to adhered the rules. Official Sources said that locals in Nowgam village of Dooru Anantnag tipped off police on Friday evening after suspecting LPG cylinders were underweight. The truck bearing registration number JKO2AD-0767 arrived in the village on Fridayevening and started selling the gas cylinders, however villagers weighed the cylinders and found them underweight. Truck carrying 112 LPG cylinders, were later found underweight and subsequently, a police party that was tipped off by the vigilant villagers, took the possession of the cylinders and informed Legal Metrology Department "We initiated legal action against the Kiloo Gas Agency Dooru for selling underweight cylinders to consumers," Bashir Ahmad, Legal Metrology Department Inspector for Anantnag district confirmed to Early Times. He said that a fine of Rs 10,000 was imposed on dealer for selling underweight cylinders to consumers. When asked have the all the LPG gas agencies and outlets installed weighing machines, he replied, "We regularly check and ensure installation of weighing machines but people should also come forward if they suspect their cylinders are underweight," he said, adding underweight cylinders will be sent to company. Highly placed told early Times that a Minister's desperate attempt to shield the culprit failed. They said that the Minister tried his best to shield him but failed as vigilant villagers demanded action against the dealer.. |
