Torrential rains wreak havoc in JU | Administration unmoved | | Raj Sandeep Early Times Report Jammu July 2: The efficiency of University Authority has been put to test by the heavy storm and rains as the administration in the university was caught unawares. The sources told that fury of nature in terms of storm and rains coupled with heavy winds was so strong and killing that it left the whole varsity campus in a dilapidated condition filled with uprooted trees and broken electric wires all along circular road. Due to sudden change of hot weather into torrential rains, the electric wires spread over whole area of University were dead damaged with broken pieces of wires lying scattered along the roads. The sources told that nearly 36 hours have passed after the natural calamity struck the varsity yesterday, the process of restoration of electric supply and clearance of road from the fallen trees and accumulated garbage has been on a very slow speed with staff and hoteliers having a tough experience without electricity and drinking water supply. Eyes- witnesses told Early Times that in the face of restoration work having not picked up its speed for bringing normalcy in the campus, it gives an extremely poor show of authorities of varsity which do not seem to have conceived any contingent plan to tackle such unpredictable situations on a war footings The sources told that earlier also such appalling conditions cropped up, but the then administration in command of University affairs always swung into action and brought whole devastation under control within the shortest possible time. But this time the University Authority appears to be holidaying during tough time and looks apparently reluctant to come out of slumber to put its men and materials into gear despite lapse of more than 36 hours. The insiders told that due to lackadaisical approach of University administration to rise to the occasion to restore electric supply with promptness, the plight of families of staff putting in University quarters has become miserable with old and children screaming due to sweltering heat of humid atmosphere. The sources apprehend that there is no hope of restoring normal situation in the campus for another two days given the pace of work going on with scant seriousness, they rued. |
