Early Times Report

Srinagar, July 2: The patients in Vatlar maternity hospital in central Ganderbal complained of allergic reaction on administering sub-standard glucose with authorities yet to react over the issue which had created panic among masses.
Reliable hospital sources told 'Early Times' that most of the patients mainly pregnant women have developed reaction on administering glucose including D5, DNS, RL and Normal saline.
They said that the issue was brought into the notice of hospital administration several times however no firm measures were taken to address the grave problem. "This supply which also includes drip sets were of inferior quality that resulted into reaction among patients, the hospital administration if aware could have discarded entire supply but they preferred to remain silent," sources said. They said that ninety percent of patients in Vatlar maternity hospital developed reaction after administering glucose.
"My wife was admitted in the hospital few days back, she was administered with saline, she initially complained of itching upon which medicos said this is normal, however when she gave birth to child her entire body turned red with itching," Tariq Ahmad Malla of Lar Ganderbal said.
He said he brought the issue into the notice of higher-ups several times but no attention was paid towards the issue.
Sources said that the administration remained tightlipped and preferred to conceal the issue with intensions to save the guilty.
When contacted Block Medical Officer, Lar, Mushtaq Ahmad while denying reports of reaction among patients said "we have already discarded the entire supply which was of inferior quality, I have been regularly checking the stock but I did not found anything inferior"
He said that he will again visit the hospital and take stock of the supplies and if the allegations proved correct necessary actions will be followed.
