JAMMU, July 2: The Current Registration Counters set up across city, like previous years, this time around too are proving out to be a nuisance for the Amarnath yatra pilgrims as lack of amenities at some of the counters are creating lot of problems for hundreds of yatris.
The mismanagement at these counters is again diluting the very purpose of giving benefits to those yatris who are reaching here without valid registration from their home states.
The facility of Current Registration arrangement has been made available to Amarnath pilgrims at several locations in Jammu city including Vaishnavi Dham as well as Saraswati Dham near Railway Station, Mahajan Hall, Shalamar Road and Ram Mandir, Purani Mandi. As part of the compulsory guidelines to undertake the Amarnath yatra, the pilgrims, who arrive in Jammu without having valid yatra permits need to secure registration from these counters at Jammu before proceeding towards the Valley. However, mismanagement and chaos at these Current Registration Centres particularly the counter at Mahajan Hall, Shalamar Road, which got shifted from Jammu Haat, Exhibition Ground this year, are quite visible on ground there by exposing the claims of the authorities of providing best possible facilities to Amarnath pilgrims. The pictures shot by Early Times cameraperson early this morning are self explanatory as it could be seen that hundreds of pilgrims have to wait in long queues that too under inclement weather conditions.
A large number of pilgrims said that Registration Counter at Mahajan Hall is ill-equipped to cater to the needs of the yatris adding that it lacks proper facilities due to which the yatris are facing lot of hardships adding that Jammu Haat was more ideal place for the registration purpose as it was spacious and could handle the rush of pilgrims easily.
They said that the place is too small to accommodate the rush of pilgrims while it also has no sheds to save from rain water or in event of clear weather from scorching heat.
Moreover, there is also no provision of food stalls near the Counter as was previously used to be set up at Jammu Haat counter.
The pilgrims rue that at the Mahajan Hall Registration Counter facility of clock room has not been provided due to which they are facing huge problems in keeping their luggage in safe custody.
They said that the policemen deployed at the Counter do not allow them to take their baggage and other belongings inside the hall which involves risk as someone may steal their luggage.
