Traffic on historic Mughal road restored | | | Early times report Srinagar, July 2: Traffic on historic Mughal road was restored this afternoon after remaining disrupted due to landslides, triggered by rains since this morning. A traffic police official said that traffic on the historic road was restored at 1530 hrs. Vehicles stranded on the road are being cleared, he said. He said heavy rain triggered landslides at several places on this historic road, connecting Shopian in south Kashmir with Poonch and Rajouri in Jammu region. Traffic from both sides was stopped and authorities immediately started operation to clear the landslides. After receiving green signal from the official posted on the road, being seen as alternative to the Srinagar-Jammu highway, traffic was restored this afternoon. The Jammu and Kashmir government has already approached the Union Government to declare the historic road as national highway. Reports reaching here said that large number of vehicles got stranded on both sides of the road after landslides. Once the stranded vehicles will be cleared, fresh traffic will be allowed later. |
