A half-hour flight, fare as low as Rs 1,770 likely to become a reality from August | | | Agencies
New Delhi, July 2: The Aviation Ministry's Regional Connectivity Scheme literally aims to make hop-on and hop-off the airlines a reality! The government has taken steps for providing flight connectivity between cities within a distance of 200 km to 800 km. There are plans of bringing in around 410 airports within the ambit of the Regional Connectivity Scheme. There are 31 airports which can allow flying without much additional cost. Central and state governments will together work towards revival of these airports. Initially, the government is planning revival of around 60 airports. The bids will be called in the coming days for deciding the operator. The plan is to implement the scheme by August 1. Here is how you are going to benefit from the Regional Connectivity Scheme: The Regional Connectivity Scheme puts a cap of Rs 1,770 to 4,070 for flight distance between 200 km to 800 km. Fare cap for a 30- minute ride would be Rs 2,500, which means the flight operator cannot charge more than Rs 25,00 for a flight duration of 30 minutes. Aviation Ministry's draft paper has clarified that a one hour trip not to exceed Rs 5000 The existing big carriers, charter operators, as well as new operators will be eligible to operate flights. |
