People seek compensation under MoU of Sewa-II project

Bani, July 3: The resident of village Gatti, Tehsil Bani, demanding compensation staged protest against NHPC branch Bani and state government.
Seeking implementation of Memorandum of Understanding MoU made between J&K and Punjab government in 2000 while acquiring land for construction of water reservoir of Sewa-II power project.
The protest was led by Advocate Rakesh Thakur, shouted slogan against NHPC and State government.
While addressing to protesters Thakur Said a Memorandum of Understanding MoU was made between state government and Punjab government during acquiring of land under the supervision of NHPC in which number of steps were discussed to facilitate the locals whose land was to acquire.
Thakur said according to MoU, NHPC had to provide job avenue to locals, provide medical, road connectivity, school, free electricity & water supply but 16 years went, no such facilities has been provided till day. He said people live in worse/ helpless condition without any source of income as the agricultural land had been acquired with the assurance that they would be facilitated.
Thakur informed that when people felt insecure they approached to High court Jammu that directed state government and NHPC to provide job avenue and other facilities under MoU to locals but its failure of the state government & NHPC as the order has not been implemented for long resulting massive protest and resentment among locals. He said people can cross any limit if NHPC fails to provide facilities within days.
Vishno devi, a widow, who lost her husband due to shortage of financial assistance and medical facilities in the area, disclosed that her land the ultimate source of income had been snatched by NHPC by making them fool. She demanded compensation of acquired land and job in Sewa II project to run her family.
Meena, Anjali, Sheela Thakur, Kavita devi and other women had similar views and appealed Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti to intervene in the matter and directed NHPC for implementation of both MoU and High Court's direction.
