Early Times Report

JAMMU, July 3: The RSS, so-called non-political cultural organization committed to the Hindu cause, on Saturdayfinally hosted its maiden Iftar party and that too within the premises of the Parliament. Indersh Kumar, who served as Prantiya Pracharak in J&K for years, delivered the keynote address. The Iftar party was organized under the banner of Rashtriya Muslim Manch (RMM), which was founded by the RSS in 2002 with Indresh Kumar its chief patron. It was not an ordinary Iftar Party. For, Muslims from almost 50 nations attended this Iftar party. It was a big event, which was also coupled with similar other programmes in which senior BJP leaders also participated. Critics of the BJP used Social networking sites to ridicule them and the RSS. Their purpose was to make the country understand that the RSS and its affiliates like the BJP had turned secular like the Congress and similar other parties were.
The event evoked interest from across the political spectrum and sections of media. Interestingly, almost everyone ridiculed the RSS and opined that the purpose behind hosting this Iftar party was purely "political and that the impending elections in Uttar Pradesh was the main factor that made the RSS to host the Iftar party". Some said the "RSS hosted Iftar party to win over the Muslims so that the BJP could win the 2019 general election". The attack on the RSS was sharp by any standard.
Finding itself in an awkward situation, the RSS ideologues and BJP spokespersons in one voice said that "the RSS had nothing to do with the Iftar party" and that "it was hosted by an independent Muslim organization, the RMM". When told that "Indresh Kumar was the chief guest," the clueless and cornered RSS ideologues said "Indresh Kumar does not hold any position in the RSS". They virtually disowned Indresh Kumar. They took this stand despite the fact that Indresh Kumar was senior RSS functionary.
Significantly, Indresh Kumar also defended the RSS by saying that the RSS was not behind this Iftar party and that it was the RMM that organized it and he delivered the keynote address as he was requested by the Munch. So much so, he accused the critics of tarnishing the image of the RSS.
Notwithstanding what the RSS ideologues and Indresh Kumar said in defence of the RSS, none believed them. All the critics stuck to their stand and asserted that the Sangh Parivar had deviated from its path. Significantly, even many Muslims also tore into the RSS and the BJP and accused them of "fooling the Muslims by holding such functions".
The fact of the matter is that the Iftar party that the RSS hosted on Saturday has destroyed the RSS and tarnished its image.
