Former PDP minister who tried engineer split seeks amnesty | Party top brass in no mood to forgive | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, July 3: A former PDP minister, who was dropped by the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, from her cabinet in April this year, has sought amnesty and is trying his best to persuade the PDP leadership to give him a cabinet berth. Sources told Early Times the former Minister, who was considered to be very close to the former Chief Minister late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, has somehow managed to reach out to Mehbooba Mufti and has got conveyed to her that she should forget the past and concentrate on future. It is in place to mention here the PDP leader in question had raised the banner of revolt against the party when the incumbent Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti had shown reluctance to join hands with BJP after her father's death. It's an open secret that former minister had managed to get the support of 12 PDP legislators and was trying to seek the support of a few more to strike a deal with BJP to form the government in Jammu and Kashmir. The PDP leader was punished by the party leadership for trying to engineer a split in the party. He was dropped from the cabinet and was eventually sidelined but a few PDP leaders who had supported him were let go off the hook after stern warning. Sources revealed that senior PDP leaders Tariq Hameed Karra and Muzaffar Hussain Beigh, who stood by Mehbooba Mufti during crisis, had advised her to drop the "black sheep" and take new faces. "Mehbooba Mufti gave a chance to others, who were the part of rebellion, but dropped the "kingpin." Since the day Mehbooba Mufti has been sworn in as 13th Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir the PDP leader in question has tried his best to assure her that he would remain loyal to the party come what may, but his past track record is proving to be a big impediment in his rehabilitation. Sources said that these days the PDP leader is busy spreading rumours that he is being offered Tourism Ministry but he is not interested in Tourism. "The PDP leader is a giving a notion that he has become very close to the party president and the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and he is leaving no stone unturned to claim that he is the die-hard loyalist of Mufti family." Insiders said during the Anantnag by-election, the PDP leader had offered all possible help to the Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti, but she refused to take his help and won the by-election with a handsome margin without involving any of the top PDP leaders. "Despite the PDP leader enjoying the support of a powerful lobby even within BJP is finding it hard to get his position restored as the Chief Minister has put her foot down and is no ready to entertain any recommendation to give former minister an another chance," sources added. |
