ReT scam surfaces in Baramulla

Early Times Report

SRINAGAR, July 3: In a brazen violation of rules and regulations officials of School Education Department in Shirpora Zone of north Kashmir's Baramulla district have allegedly recruited two incompetent aspirants for Rehbar-e-Taleem (ReT) post while dropping the deserving one.
The document available with the Early Times reveals that the Zonal Education officer Baramulla has appointed non deserving candidates as ReT who have achieved less marks in the qualifiying exams than those who have attained more marks and also violated the other eligibility criteria for the said post.
According to a selection notification issued by the Chief Education Officer (CEO) Baramulla published in the year 2012, claiming to have appointed two aspirants as Rehbar-e-Taleem (ReT) and among the aspirants one has only passed (10+2) higher secondary school exam while another attained 722 marks out of 1800 in bachelors course.
A startling revelation came to fore through the documents provided by a candidate who has secured 909 marks out of 1800 in B.Com and was left to lurch. "I also submitted the form for the post but the department appointed the aspirants having less marks and less qualification than me but to my astonishment I was dropped in the selection list. Being deserving and having been dropped shattered my all hopes," he said.
"Since then I have been moving from pillar to the post to get justice, I have also filed complaint before Zonal Education Officer (ZEO) Baramulla, CEO Baramulla, Directorate of School Education and Commissioner Secretary Education Secretariat Jammu and Srinagar on December 17, 2012 but no action was taken nor was any enquiry ordered in this matter," he said. Earlier before the issuing advertisement of ReT post in the zone, the Sarpanch and other members of the Halqa 213 Shirpora Zone Chadoosa in district Baramulla in a written application to CEO on December 8, 2012 have requested him to notify them when ever any advertisement is issued with reference to the appointment of ReT teachers in the said Zone so that the aspirants don't feel any discrepancies in the appointment process. However, the authorities didn't pay heed over the request and issued the notification without informing the Halqa authorities. According to the official sources, Director of School Education, Shah Faisal ordered inquiry in this regard. "A team headed by Joint director was investigating the matter but soon after it, inquiry was stopped as the team head appointed by Shah Faisal was transferred by the officials thereby delay occurred in it," sources said.
Despite attempts Director of School Education, Shah Faisal could not be contacted for comments.
