7/3/2016 11:59:33 PM
Early Times Report

Rajouri, July 3: To divert the traffic load and to avoid frequent traffic jams on main Abdullah bridge connecting old and new Rajouri towns, State government had sanctioned another bridge in the vicinity few years ago which was completed in the year 2015 and was handed over to the PWD .
But till today due financial crunch the State Government has failed to release the compensation money for the land acquired for the construction of link road and the bridge has become a parking place for the inhabitants of the area instead lessening frequent traffic jams.
"The government has sufficient money to spend on the luxurious tours of the Legislatures and bumper hike in their salaries but it has no money to mitigate the miseries of common man. Government has acquired the land from the people for the construction of link road but has no money to give them" said Yogesh Sharma, Sarpanch & President Azad Party.
After complaints of frequent traffic jams the State Government lead by late Mufti Mohd Sayeed had sanctioned an alternative bridge in the vicinity of Abdullah bridge with a cost of about R22 crores including cost of bridge (about Rs 7crores ) and compensation for infrastructure /land acquired for the construction of link road to divert traffic from Abdullah bridge twards district hospital ,Thanamandi and Darhal tehsils.
The contract was given to Jammu based firm M/SAK construction Company which had completed the bridge in the year 2015 and when begin widening and black topping work of the link road inhabitants of the area didn't allow them to execute work without release of infrastructure/land compensation. "As the people didn't allow the contractor to carry on the work on link road, the contractor after collecting Rs6 crores (out of Rs 7 crores for the construction of the bridge) had abandoned the work and the department has been facing the wrath of the people" said a senior officer of PWD(R&B).
He added the Government should release the remaining money in the installments so that the people whose land has been acquired would not have stopped the construction work on the link road.
