Army conducts Jhangar Day Volleyball Tournament

Naushera, July 3: The Army in Naushera sector conducted a knockout volleyball tournament for local teams at Lam, Naushera. The tournament, which commenced on June 27 under arrangement of Lam Battalion as part of Jhangar Day Celebrations 2016, witnessed active participation with eight local teams competing for the title from Lam, Laroka, Qila Darhal, Rumlidhara, Jhangar, Kalsiyan and Kalal villages. Jhangar Day is celebrated every year in July to commemorate the bravehearts led by Brig Mohd Usman, MVC, who laid down their lives in the 1947- 48 war with Pakistan.
Commemorating the spirit of sacrifice, Commander, Army and SDM, Naushera, at the beginning of the final match, laid wreaths at the memorial of Shahid Pritam Singh of Lam. In a closely contested final held today amid boisterous cheering by the spectators, Rumlidhara team defeated Kalal team by 3.0 sets. During the prize distribution ceremony, Commander, Army felicitated the winners and runners up and complimented them on a very high standard of sportsmanship and game display. He also awarded certificates to players from the others teams. Speaking on the occasion, Commander, Army expressed that the tournament had been organised to provide exposure to local teams and promote sportsmanship. He also announced that the Lam Battalion would shortly organize the Shahid Tika Bahadur Sports Coaching Camp from 07 July 2016 at Lam to scout for talent and benefit the youth of the area.
