Mr Moon, leave J&K to the Indian care | Comment | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Oct 3: UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has called on India and Pakistan to resolve their outstanding issues, including Kashmir, peacefully through diplomacy and dialogue and said his "good offices" are available, if accepted by both sides. A statement to this effect was issued at New York by Ban's spokesman, which said: "The UN Chief is 'deeply concerned' over the 'significant increase' in tensions between India and Pakistan in the wake of the recent developments, in particular the 'reported cease-fire violations' along the Line of Control following an attack on an Indian army base in Uri on September 18. The Secretary-General urges both sides to exercise maximum restraint and take immediate steps to de-escalate the situation," the statement said. The statement of Ban Ki-moon was biased. For, it virtually put the aggressed upon India at par with the aggressor Pakistan. It was Pakistan which committed the heinous crime; India only acted, acted for the first time in 70 years. India didn't violate the ceasefire. And which LoC? India didn't enter Pakistan by the trespassing the international border. India only entered its own territory in Pakistan-occupied-Jammu and Kashmir and it was entitled to that as it was the question of nation's territorial integrity and sovereignty. It had been Pakistan which had been violating both the ceasefire and the international border ever since 1947 and killing our jawans deep inside the Indian territories. Moon says he was willing to mediate between India and Pakistan to help both the countries resolve all the outstand issues, including the issue of J&K. J&K is settled issue and it was settled on October 26, 1947, when the ruler of the state exercided the authority vested in him by the relevant constitutional law on the subject and Moon as Secretary General of United Nations should be aware of the UN resolutions which implicitly, nay explicitly, recognized the Indian sovereignty in PoJK and Gilgit-Baltistan. How else could one interpret the UN security Council Resolution of August 13, 1948, which asked Pakistan to vacate the aggression and authorized India to send its forces there to maintain law and order there? India doesn't require any mediation from any quarter. It is capable of tackling Pakistan and taking care of Jammu and Kashmir, which is central to the nation's defence and the defence of the strategic Himalayas, the India's lifeline. And India on September 28 proved beyond doubt that India was capable of defending its geo-political and economic interests. Gone are the days when the South Block would only react to Pakistani provocative and break-India activities. New Delhi has changed and it has discarded the 7o-year-old failed Nehruvian policy towards Pakistan. Ban Ki-moon would do well to refrain from interfering India's internal affairs. Let him focus his attention on terrorism and the source of terrorism, Pakistan, which has posed a live threat to world peace. It was not for nothing that even Hillary Clinton had to acknowledge the other day that Pakistan could hand over small nuclear weapons to terrorists. It was not an ordinary statement; it was an extraordinary statement considering the fact that till two days ago she was defending Pakistan. |
