Srinagar, Oct 3: After the militant outfit Lashkar-e-Toiba threatened Education Minister Naeem Akhtar of dire consequence if he continues to ask people to resume normal work, the security agencies have taken a serious note of it and urged the minister to stay vigilant. According to a letter written by Superintendent of Police Security to Additional Director General of Police JK on September 24, a copy of which lies with Early Times titled `threat conveyed through press statement to minister Naeem Akhtar', the police officer had taken the review of Naeem's security on September 28 after being threatened by militants.
"I visited the minister personally on September 28, 2016 and the staff has been deployed with eight PSOs, transport from security Kashmir, access control, double escort from PCR Kashmir. One section of F Coy CRPF 75 Bn," the letter reads. According to the latter, he has briefed the minister to take all the security precautions including taking security staff along wherever he goes. The liason officer was briefed to remain present round the clock and nobody will leave the protected person/place alone.
Further, it has recommended that restoration of security lights on the rear side of the house, closure of wicket gate on the eastern side of the house just in between the residence CAPD minister and the house of the protectee, enhancement of height of the perimeter fence on the rear side of the house, installation of wicket gate just on the left side of the entrance which is open passage and needs to be regulated, rear posts need to be occupied as they are not being manned and barricades need to be placed near entry gates. The police have decided to take these security measures after Mehmood Shah the LeT chief said in a statement: "Akhtar should desist from forcing people to end the strike. People of Kashmir are educated who can differentiate between good and bad. The present struggle is not against education system but against Indian occupation. If Naeem Akhater does mend his ways, we will initiate action against him."
