Kulgam, Oct 3: In yet another attack, terrorists on Monday evening snatched five rifles from the policemen guarding a minority family at Samnoo-Nihama village in this south Kashmir district. According to official sources, terrorists broke into a minority police picket at Samnoo Village and run away with a huge cache of arms and ammunition, which include five self-loading rifles, 250 rounds and ten magazines. Sources said that soon after the incident senior police officials visited the picket and took stock of the situation. Army, paramilitary CRPF and SOG Kulgam too intensified patrolling in and around the village. SP Kulgam, Sreedhar Patil confirmed the weapon snatching incident and said, "Terrorists trained guns on two civilians and threatened to kill them if policemen didn't handover the weapons to them." He said that there was no exchange of fire on the spot as terrorists used two youth as human shield. "We are looking into it. I have just returned from the spot," he added. Pertinent to mention here, the village where this incident took place is just 1 Km away from RR unit. Despite alerts and warnings from intelligence sleuths, Jammu and Kashmir Police have failed to devise a strategy to minimize the weapon snatching incidents. In last month, at least sixteen rifles were snatched from cops' by terrorists in south Kashmir. |
